Visual Studio Code Extension Download Count

Usually, I want to see download count data for my vs code extensions, especially when there is a new release of the extension. However, we could only see the current download count in VS Marketplace. Therefore, I implement this site to support view the historical data of download count: Visual Studio Code Extension Download Count

So, how do I make that? I use below things.

  • A Scheduled Job (Azure Worker Role) to continuously query download count data from VS Markerplace
  • Database (SQL Azure) to store the download count data permanently
  • Rest Service (ASP.NET Web Api hosted on Azure Web App) to provide rest api to query download count data
  • Website (A static site hosted on GitHub Pages generated by ReactJS)

Go to and have a look! This is just an initial release. Look forward to your feedback!
